Our Story
Empleos & Employment was founded by Cristina Villacinda-Farr. Cristina is a
first generation immigrant from Venezuela. She came to the United States of America
nearly 20 years ago. She arrived with a college degree, professional work experience,
and a desire to advance her education. However, as a Hispanic woman with limited
English skills she faced many challenges. At times she was judged on her ability
to speak English rather than her ability to execute. At one point she was turned
down for a promotion because the hiring manager was afraid that her accent would
offend their clients. Cristina did not let this discourage her and a few months later she was granted the promotion.
As her ability to understand the culture and
language of corporate America increased, she advanced quickly. She has risen to
positions of strategic importance in every organization she has joined. In addition
to her multicultural abilities, she brings many years of experience as a project
manager. She is a forward thinker. At her last company she developed and managed
the development, testing and sales strategy of a software package that is now the
largest of its type currently utilized in the Federal Government. Along the way,
she was fortunate to find mentors who would help her chart the path
forward. For
this reason she is passionate about
sharing her experiences and lessons learned
to empower the highly diverse and talented professionals of today's marketplace
and equip them with the tools and skills they need to navigate the corporate world.
She is equally committed to assisting corporation that seek these same individuals
Nathan A. Farr, Co-founder graduated from The Ohio State University with degrees
in Finance and International Business Administration and Spanish. He has worked
in a variety of roles including HR, strategy, sales and marketing. Nathan's particular
passion is cultural competency training and working with management to better understand
and work with diverse populations. His clients find that through developing better
understanding and communication skills they can solve their recruiting and retention
challenges of immigrant populations. His experience spans many industries and includes
many years as a contractor with Federal, State and local government agencies. He
has lived and worked in the Hispanic community for over 20 years and speaks fluent Spanish. Early in his career he spent nearly two years in Venezuela where he led
his company's sales and marketing strategies. He has said that he did not fully
understand the need for cultural and language understanding until he was sitting
across the table from Venezuelan union representatives and discussing why they should
buy American.
Together, Cristina and Nathan bring their vast experience to the company and it
shapes the company's operational philosophy and core values. Their philosophy
is to provide excellent service and go the extra mile before trying to collect for
it.
